If we could show you a way to maximise and balance the health of your body using this simple yet little known herb, would you be interested in learning more? Well, in this article, we will be sharing with you how the hemp entourage effect can help you do just that.
The “entourage effect” was coined by neurologist and researcher of psychopharmacology, Dr Ethan Russo. This term was cultivated after discovering the synergistic effects between different compounds that enhance and boost each other when combined.
The relationship between THC and CBD was studied, along with the relationship between CBD and terpenes. Whole plant hemp products are ideal to experiencing the entourage effect because they have a high efficiency and are stronger than using an isolated compound (which is stripped of its natural co-factors). This is because more compounds are readily available and working together.
Users of whole plant hemp products will usually find a faster, more responsive relief from dis-ease and conditions.
One key notable about Russo is his special qualification in child neurology. He served on the faculty of three universities and as a visiting professor at other colleges. On his public profile, he states, “I have always held a strong interest in medicinal plants, which I gradually incorporated into my practice and research endeavours, with the aim to bring cannabis-based and other botanical agents back into the mainstream of medicine.”
Russo was also the former president of the International Cannabinoid Research Society and a former chairman for the International Association for Cannabinoid Medicines. He is recognized internationally for his research on the compounds found inside hemp and their notable effects in the body.
The endocannabinoid system has been extensively studied by Russo, who has helped bring us a greater understanding of its role within the human body. Helping us to explain it’s near miraculous effects at bringing balance to all the other bodily systems when activated.
His major work has been bringing to light the understanding of the “entourage effect” and how this is crucial in maximizing many botanicals, including hemp. Russo’s research found “complementary pharmacological activities that may strengthen and broaden clinical applications and improve the therapeutic index of cannabis extracts.”
In fact, in 2017, Russo joined Americans for Safe Access (ASA) and held a webinar called “Cannabis: An Unconventional Solution to the Opioid Crisis?” He speaks on the opioid epidemic and how medicinal plants like cannabis (hemp) can work to combat it.
Dr. Russo emphasised that from his research, hemp treated pain without the negative side effects associated with opioids and does not contribute to cardiorespiratory failure. He shared that hemp can be used instead of pain medication or it can be utilised in smaller doses of opioids to reach a similar effect.
Russo also referenced studies that prove hemp’s capacity to dramatically lower withdrawal symptoms during opioid detox and can assist in combatting drug-seeking behaviour. He stressed that one of the more well-known cannabinoids “THC” is not the only avenue, and that many of the other 113 cannabinoids found inside hemp, such as CBD, can help in fighting the opioid battle.
As you can tell, the entourage effect is crucial in maximising hemp's natural effectiveness in activating the endocannabinoid system and balancing the bodily systems.
